Clinical Studies of Placental Abruption

Abstract
Abruptio placentae is the separation of the placenta from its site of implantation in the uterus before the delivery of the fetus after the 20th week of gestation and remains one of the most serious harzards of late pregrarcy. The data presented here are based on the 35 cases of abruptio placentae among 2.467 deliveries at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Jeonbug National University Medical School from February 1, 1975 to November 30, 1980.
1. The incidence of placental abruption was 1.41%.
2. The majority of placental abruption occured between age 24 and 29, and its percentage was 34.3%.
3. The incidence of placental abruption in nulliparous woman was 17,1 % and in multiparous woman was 82.9%.
4. It was interesting to identify that about 2/3 of cases of placental abruption had a tendency of premature labor occurir.g between 21 ar.d 36 weeks of gestational period.
5. The disorder was associated with Eypc:rter6ve cDrdition in 42.9% and urkr.cwn causes in 51.4%.
6. The most common syrrptcm was abdemiral pain ar.d ter_derrecs(82.5%). Vagiral blecding was found in _77.1 % and intrauterine fetal death in 68.1 %.
7. Fetal mortality had close relatierst.ip with the duration frcm or.et to deliEvEiy. If the duration was more than 9 hours, perinatal death wus occured in all cases.
8. Among the complications of placental abruptior, ccagulatien defect occured in 5.7%, shock in 11.4%, and postpartal herrorrhage in 14.3%.
9. Cesarean section was performed in 97.1 % and vaginal delivery in 2.9 %.
10. Perinatal mortality rate was 82.9% including still birth (68.6%) and neonatal death (14.3%). There was no maternal death in our studies.
